LONDON, May 11, 2011 — The 25th running of the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge at Battersea Park indeed is a special occasion.
While celebrating a quarter century of fitness, team-building and camaraderie, Corporate Challenge participants can also do something exceptionally meaningful for the community through the Take a Step for Barnardo's! fundraising campaign.
Barnardo's is the charity beneficiary of the 2011 London J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge, which will be held on July 6-7 with a capacity gathering of more than 26,000 total participants. Barnardo's works with some of the most disadvantaged children and young people across the U.K. and funds raised through the event will go to support their vital work in London and the South East.
The JPMorgan Chase Foundation, in honor of the 25th year of the Corporate Challenge in London, will make a donation to Barnardo's. And all participating companies and individuals have an opportunity to pledge their own funds.
"We are absolutely delighted that the 2011 J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge event is benefitting Barnardo's," said Kevin Pietersen, England cricketer and Barnardo's Ambassador. "I encourage every one of the 26,000 participants to take a step for Barnardo's and either participate in the race or take up another challenge to benefit children in desperate need."
A small donation can be exceptionally meaningful to Barnardo's youth. For instance, just £50 can provide:
- Books and study aids for a student looking to build vital qualifications needed for employment.
- Uniform or protective clothing for disadvantage youth studying catering, hair dressing, or horticulture.
- Clothing for a child affected by poverty.
- Emergency accommodation for a homeless teenager.
- Appropriate clothes for interviews and a first job.
- A month's bus pass to assist in work placement.
All donations are welcome, but there are two very special prizes for the top overall fundraisers or donors.
The person who raises or donates the most funds will be eligible to win a Kilimanjaro Trek with disabled ultra-distance athlete Chris Moon MBE next year. The prize includes an all-expenses-paid trip to Tanzania.
The second-place fundraiser or donor will qualify for one place in the 2012 Virgin London Marathon. Prize includes a Barnardo's Gold Bond place, including two training days with British Decathlon Olympian Daley Thompson CBE and World Championship Decathlon Athlete Snowy Brooks.
