Participants in the 27th annual Chase Corporate Challenge on June 23 will be helping Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection assist Syracuse's urban youth.

SYRACUSE, April 14, 2009 — The 27th annual Chase Corporate Challenge in Syracuse will benefit the Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection (HW-SC). A donation for each of the projected 7,000 entries at the June 23 event will be made to help Syracuse's urban youth succeed.

Specifically, the donation from the Corporate Challenge will be ear-marked for HW-SC to launch a Youth Workforce Development and Green Jobs initiative. This is in line with the HW-SC mission helping children in the City of Syracuse become better students through job training and community engagement, and also the Corporate Challenge's Teaming Up For A Greener Tomorrow initiative.

HW-SC helps urban youth stay in school, achieve academic success, and earn their high school diplomas. Students enter the program in seventh through ninth grade. School-based youth advocates provide 360° support to help students develop good habits, acquire essential skills, and achieve their potential to become contributing, responsible young people at home, in school, and at work.

Through focused training programs, young people will gain the skills needed to pursue careers in park management, ecological restoration, landscaping, and many other related fields. Youth enterprise programs will teach entrepreneurial skills and allow these young adults to start and run their own successful part-time businesses in their neighborhoods.
