Asian Civilisations Museum, MILK Fund
benefit from 2011 Corporate Challenge
Singapore, 29 March, 2011 — J.P. Morgan today confirmed two local non-profit groups as the beneficiaries for the eighth annual J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge® in Singapore — the Asian Civilisations Museum and MILK (Mainly I Love Kids) Fund.
The eighth annual Corporate Challenge — expected to attract a sell-out crowd of more than 12,000 runners and walkers from close to 400 Singapore based companies — will be held on Thursday, 21 April 2011 starting at 6:00pm at the Esplanade Bridge.
The JPMorgan Chase Foundation will make a donation to both ACM and MILK on behalf of the Corporate Challenge. More than $600,000US in total was donated in 2010 to not-for-profit organizations as part of the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge Series.
“Our beneficiaries are chosen locally and underscore J.P. Morgan’s support not only for arts and culture in Singapore and at a global level, but also highlights the importance that J.P. Morgan places on education and community support,” says Sophie Hurst, Deputy Chief Operating Officer. “We are proud to support the great causes of both of our beneficiaries again this year and look forward to continuing the partnership in the future.”
The Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) seeks to promote awareness and appreciation of the ancestral cultures of Singaporeans and their links to Southeast Asia and the world. ACM has been a beneficiary of the J.P.Morgan Corporate Challenge in Singapore for the past 7 years since the 5.6km race started.
““The Asian Civilisations Museum has been a proud beneficiary of the J. P. Morgan Corporate Challenge since its inception in 2004. Providing educational opportunities is our prime goal, and we are grateful to J.P. Morgan for their generous support,” says Alan Chong, director of the Asian Civilisations Museum. “This year’s donation will support the renovation of our ExplorAsian Zones. Geared towards families and younger visitors, the Zones engage thousands of visitors each year with innovative multi-media and hands-on stations that explore Asian cultures in fun and meaningful ways. The funds will go a long way in helping us reach new audiences.”
MILK is a charity organisation that was set up to reach out and help disadvantaged children who “fall through the cracks” of our social safety net, and was named as an additional beneficiary for the first time in 2010.
“J.P. Morgan has been a strong supporter of MILK”, says Dr Sheryn Mah, President of Mainly I Love Kids (MILK) Fund. “We value their continued commitment and generosity and their engagement with us to serve the children in need.”
The Asian Civilisations Museum (www.acm.org.sg) was opened in 1997 with a mission to explore and present the cultures and civilisations of Asia, so as to promote awareness and appreciation of the ancestral cultures of Singaporeans and their links to Southeast Asia and the world.
As a beneficiary of the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge since 2004, the donation to ACM will once again directly benefit the Museum's interactive ExplorAsian Zones. These interactive displays encourage “hands on” learning, where tactile, audio and kinesthetic modes of learning are incorporated into the displays. Revamped through the last five years with both the donation and J.P Morgan’s own core funds, this partnership effectively offers J.P. Morgan an opportunity to mix education and culture together.
Registered in 2004, MILK (Mainly I Love Kids) Fund (www.milk.org.sg) focuses on plugging gaps in the social service sector rather than duplicating what is already in existence. In a unique partnership formed with local partners, MILK plays the role of advocacy and fund raising while the partners focus on providing direct services for the children and youth who come from troubled or impoverished communities, and some are physically challenged. MILK supports them in their education, care and guidance, vocational and livelihood development and other special needs so as to give them the opportunity to develop to their full potential. MILK ensures that help provided is holistic and transformational to the families or community by bringing together resources and committed partners, such as supportive donors like J.P. Morgan.
