SHANGHAI, July 20, 2011 — The J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge will host its first race in Shanghai on 20 October 2011, extending the expansive global footprint of this landmark event into China.
The 5.6km road race in Shanghai is the first expansion of venue for the Corporate Challenge in seven years. It comes on the back of 12 percent growth in total participants worldwide since the start of 2010.
Over the last 35 years, the Corporate Challenge has expanded from a few hundred participants in New York City to more than 245,000 runners in 13 cities globally.
The races, which include runners from thousands of corporations, provide an ideal team-building and networking opportunity for participants and philanthropic benefits for the host city. J.P. Morgan will make a donation on behalf of the Corporate Challenge.
The J.P. Morgan Shanghai Corporate Challenge, to be held in the Xuhui District, marks the occasion of the firm’s 90th year anniversary in China.
“We are privileged to have the opportunity to host this milestone event in Shanghai, an historic city and a financial center with one of the most vibrant and diversified business communities in China,” said Zili Shao, Chairman and CEO of J.P. Morgan China.

J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge
The J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge was founded in 1977 with a single race in New York City. Now in its 35th consecutive year of operation, it has grown to more than 245,000 total participants from over 8,000 companies at events in Australia, England, Germany, Singapore, South Africa, the United States, and now China.
The Corporate Challenge, owned and operated by J.P. Morgan, has increased or leveled its participation in 32 of its 35 years of operation and has enjoyed a 12-percent increase in entries since 2009. The complete schedule of events is available at www.jpmorgan.com/cc. The Shanghai expansion is the first in the Series since Johannesburg and Singapore joined in 2004.
Businesses that participate in the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge range from the largest employers in the world to start-up entrepreneurial firms. The Corporate Challenge is an all-inclusive event open to fast racers, joggers, walkers and employees of all experience levels. More than half of the events achieve a full capacity of entrants; for example, New York City reaches its limits of 30,000 entrants within one week of the opening of registration.
Competition is keen at the front of the pack. The fastest companies in the men's, women's and mixed divisions at each Corporate Challenge event earn a trip to the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge Championship. The last Championship was held in Singapore this past April 21.
