Shanghai opens big

Inaugural event in China
is 3rd largest first-year Corporate Challenge ever

SHANGHAI, October 6, 2011 — Registration has closed for the inaugural J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge in Shanghai and the numbers are historically impressive.

A total of 3,810 runners and walkers — all full-time workers who entered as part of corporate teams — from 176 companies will compete on October 20 at Xuhui Riverside. That will make it the third-largest debut Corporate Challenge event in the 35-year history of the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge Series.

Shanghai is the first expansion of the Corporate Challenge Series since 2004. Its attendance of 3,810 trails only the debuts of Singapore (6,766 in 2004) and Johannesburg (6,144, also in 2004). Shanghai’s first-year numbers easily surpass other first-year events held in cities such as Sydney (2,180 in 2000), Frankfurt (527 in 1993) and Chicago (1,200 in 1982).

Participants in Shanghai will also be making a tangible contribution to an excellent cause. The JPMorgan Chase Foundation, in celebration of the Corporate Challenge, made a donation to Right to Play China, a not-for-profit organization committed to enhancing the holistic development of migrant children through advanced education programs, sports and play.

The 10 largest companies in terms of participation numbers at this year’s Shanghai event are: SMIC (293 entrants); J.P. Morgan (262); PricewaterhouseCoopers (198); Eaton Corporation (152); GE China (143); Morgan Stanley (95); Evonik Degussa Specialty Chemicals (85); DHL-Sinotrans (83); EF (78); and Allianz China Life Insurance (67).

The first-place men's, women's and mixed teams will earn a trip to the next J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge Championship, to be held in the spring of 2012, at a location to be determined.

The J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge in Shanghai is part of the 13-city, seven-country, five-continent JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge Series with more than 250,000 participants projected to enter worldwide in 2011.
