prepares for Rochester's Corporate Challenge
ROCHESTER, May 23, 2012 — When Lewis Tree Service gathers for its post-race party at the 22nd annual JPMorgan Chase & Co. Corporate Challenge in Rochester on May 31, the celebration will feature great food and stories about the just-run race. There also will be more than the usual amount of team-building that takes place — even for these team-oriented Corporate Challenge events.
Not only will Lewis Tree Service have 48 participants as well as family members on hand, but also participating will be the company's CEO/President, Thomas R. Rogers. He'll be joined by five other members of the company's executive team headquartered in West Henrietta. Also on hand for the celebration will be vice presidents from Lewis Tree Service's five regions, which are spread across 25 states from Maine to Florida, as well as Canada.
It is no accident that this is happening, explained Debbie Valle, a benefits analyst at Lewis Tree Service who serves as its company captain.
"The senior leadership quarterly meeting is planned around this event so that our senior leaders from different states that we are located in can participate," she said.
In many ways, it is fitting that Lewis Tree Service takes such a team-building, inclusive approach to the Corporate Challenge, which last year attracted 8,952 runners and walkers from 393 companies to the expansive, green campus of Rochester Institute of Technology for the 3.5-mile team road race and post-event party.
A Rochester Top 100 company, Lewis Tree Service is a leading provider of vegetation management services to utilities and governments. Established in 1938, the company is 100 percent employee-owned with over 3,500 employees. The pride in their company and the ownership culture that they have developed sets them apart. Working as a team is a cornerstone in an employee-owned company and this team, which includes the majority of their managers, will come together at the Corporate Challenge to prove just that.
"We have a great time planned at the night of the event," said Valle. "We have created a great design for our T-Shirt, we will have a catered meal, we will enjoy bragging about each other’s running times, and we will take many pictures to post internally.”

"The Corporate Challenge provides a basis of teamwork and pride, and we at Lewis Tree feel that we do that every day when we come to work; work as a team and take pride in the company we work for," added Valle.
Lewis Tree Service has been participating in Rochester's Corporate Challenge for years. In 2010, the company won the T-Shirt Design Contest.
"That was a very exciting and proud moment for us," said Valle. "Also, who can forget the monsoon rains we had two years ago? We were soaked head to toe."
In addition to the team-building focus of the Corporate Challenge, Lewis Tree Service has become a regular entrant in Rochester's Corporate Challenge for several other reasons.
"The JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge is always a well-organized event and we at Lewis Tree look forward to attending every year," said Valle. "Supporting the community is important to Lewis Tree. This event is also a great way to interact with other companies outside business relations."
And, there is also the event's charitable side, with this year's race benefitting the Greater Rochester Chapter of the American Red Cross. That fits in well with Lewis Tree Service's long history of support for community causes.
"It is important to give back to our community and we will participate no matter what, because this is who we are," said Valle. "Each year, Lewis Tree supports many local organizations that are in need. We have a Giving Committee, which incorporates the same concept of giving back."
It all adds up to what should be a fun race — followed by an even more fun celebration — for a company whose vision statement seems most appropriate for its annual evenings at Rochester's JPMorgan Chase & Co. Corporate Challenge — "One team leading one company."
