for Camp Harbor View in June 25 event

BOSTON, April 23, 2009 — A capacity crowd of 12,000 runners and walkers at the June 25 J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge in Boston will be running for Camp Harbor View, a day camp that serves over 600 inner-city youth ages 11-14 each summer.

The JPMorgan Chase Foundation will make a donation for each Corporate Challenge entry to Camp Harbor View. This is the second consecutive year the not-for-profit organization has served as the primary beneficiary of the largest road race held entirely within the Boston city limits.

Camp Harbor View, located on Long Island in Boston Harbor, provides an opportunity for children from Boston's at-risk neighborhoods to experience the joys of summer day camp in a beautiful and safe location in their own city. In addition to having the chance to participate in a wide variety of activities and learning opportunities, campers will learn about life options that they may have never considered while receiving exceptional support from a caring staff.

Founded in 2007, the Camp focuses on recruiting kids from at-risk neighborhoods and low-income families in the city of Boston. It has a curriculum based on five key areas — Leadership Skills, Knowledge is Power, Sports and Fitness, Creative Expression/The Arts, and Aquatics. Campers are provided round-trip transportation from 14 neighborhood stops, apparel, and three meals a day. Tuition is just $5 for an entire month-long session, with two sessions per summer.

Camp Harbor View also offers a Counselor-in-Training program, continuing the relationship with former campers, ages 15-16, who have “aged out” of its camp program. The training program focuses on job skills, mentoring, and higher education/career exploration. It also provides year-round programs that allow the camp to stay in touch with campers and their families during the off-season.

Race start for the June 25 J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge on the Boston Common is 7:15 p.m. The event marked its 14th consecutive sell-out in 2008. A limited number of spots remain available in registration and company captains are urged to finalize their teams as soon as possible. Support is available at boston@jpmorganchasecc.com or (888) 767-RACE.
