Chicago Run is named
as beneficiary of Corporate Challenge
CHICAGO, May 17, 2011 — The 30th annual JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge in Chicago will benefit Chicago Run, meaning a near-record crowd of 23,365 participants from 683 companies will be running for two outstanding not-for-profit organizations.
Chicago Run joins the Greater Chicago Food Depository, announced on March 29, as the beneficiaries for this year's event in Grant Park, May 26, at 7:10 p.m. The JPMorgan Chase Foundation, on behalf of the Corporate Challenge, will make a donation to both not-for-profits.
The JPMorgan Chase Foundation donation will support Chicago Run's Running Mates, an after-school program which prepares Chicago Public School students to run in a local 5k or 8k race utilizing a training program that incorporates nutrition and team-building activities that promote a deeper understanding of community and diversity.
Founded in late 2007, Chicago Run is a non-profit organization that implements and supports running programs in the Chicago Public Schools to aid in the fight against childhood obesity. Chicago Run's mission is to promote the health and wellness of Chicago children through innovative, engaging, and sustainable youth running programs.
As of spring 2011, Chicago Run works in 45 elementary schools, serving a total of 10,000 children in 29 diverse communities. Ninety-one percent of its participants qualify for the federal free/reduced lunch and have limited opportunities for sports-based youth development programs.
The JPMorgan Corporate Challenge in Chicago has been conducted for 30 consecutive years and the crowd this year is 20-percent larger than 2010. It is just off the record gathering of 23,589 that assembled in 2008.
