NEW YORK, January 20, 2010 — The complete schedule for the 34th year of the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge® Series was announced today, with 3.5-mile road races in 12 cities in six countries on five continents, including the first-ever Championship event held outside of the United States.
The 2010 Series officially began this past Nov. 11 with the annual stop in Sydney, Australia. It will continue on Thursday, March 4 in Johannesburg, South Africa. On that same date, the first-place men's, women's and mixed teams from all 2009 Corporate Challenge events will compete in the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge Championship.
The Corporate Challenge Championship had been held in metropolitan New York each year since 1983. The move to Johannesburg signals a shift to an “Olympic-style rotation” with plans to have as many different Corporate Challenge cities as possible host the Championship in coming years. Details on the 2011 Championship — featuring the first place teams from 2010 Series events — will be announced later this year.
After the March visit to Johannesburg, the 2010 JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge Series will continue on Thursday, April 29 in Singapore and then moves to the United States for an active May and June.
Six U.S. cities — Chicago (Thursday, May 27), Rochester (Thursday, June 3), Buffalo (Thursday, June 10), New York City (Wednesday and Thursday, June 16-17), Syracuse (Tuesday, June 22), and Boston (Thursday, June 24) — will be visited over a five-week period. In that same timeframe, the Corporate Challenge will travel to Frankfurt, Germany on Wednesday, June 9.
There will also be Corporate Challenge events in London, England (Wednesday and Thursday, July 7-8) and San Francisco (date to be determined).
The world's most popular sporting event for the full-time business community drew an outstanding 221,704 participants from 7,731 companies in Series Year 2009 and donated more than $600,000 to local not-for-profit organizations.
The JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge Series celebrates team work. Unlike other road races, you can not enter the Corporate Challenge as an individual and each event is held on a weeknight, immediately after work. It is designed so companies and their employees can come together in a healthy, camaraderie-filled environment. All levels of employees are eligible to enter with a company being able to register an unlimited number of entries (with a minimum of four).
Adding to the team-building element, Tiffany awards are given to the top five men's, women's and mixed teams.
The large majority of companies that participate also create their own t-shirts. In 2010, two companies in each Corporate Challenge that are judged to have the most creative T-shirts will each receive a $1,000 donation to the charity of their choice.
JPMorgan Chase will also continue its Teaming Up For A Greener Tomorrow® initiative with each Corporate Challenge event utilizes best green practices in the areas of procurement, waste management and transportation. These efforts in 2008 earned the Corporate Challenge a spot in the 10 Greenest Races, as compiled by Runner's World Magazine.
Registration for all Corporate Challenge events typically open no later than three months before race day in each Series city. Please contact your local race coordinator for more specific information on securing your company's spot.
