Corporate Challenge races in Central Park
NEW YORK, March 17, 2010 — Don't hesitate. Online registration has opened for the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge® in Central Park and the available spots will fill quickly.
The Corporate Challenge is an annual sell-out, and the 34 th edition of the 3.5-mile road race will be no exception. This year's races will be held on Wednesday, June 16 and Thursday, June 17, with a starting time of 7 p.m. each night. All the details and forms you need to register your company are available online here.
A total of 15,000 entrants will be accommodated each night, with companies able to participate on one night only. Those companies taking corporate hospitality gain first priority.
Nearly 900 companies took part in 2009, with the JPMorgan Chase Foundation commemorating their participation through a donation to the event beneficiary, the Central Parks Conservancy.
Three of the competing companies earned trips as New York 's representatives to the 2010 JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge Championship held in Johannesburg, South Africa on March 4. It was the first time the season-ending Championship had been held outside metropolitan New York, and the city's team champions — The Running Company (Male), UFT Runners-DOE (Female) and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (Mixed) — all earned top 10 finishes in South Africa.
A similar trip awaits the three team champions this year, but there are three rule changes that are new for 2010:
- First-place teams in the men's, women's and mixed categories will earn a trip to the 2011 JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge Championship (location and date: TBD). Qualifying companies must have a strong New York City presence, with the company having a locally-based address (or addresses). At least three of the employees on the qualifying team must be employed at the address (or addresses). Individual runners who participated in the 2010 Championship in Johannesburg are not eligible to qualify for the 2011 Championship.
- The t-shirt contest will now choose two t-shirt winners, with each receiving $1,000 to donate to the charity of their choice.
- The Most Senior Executive category has been eliminated so the event can more appropriately focus on team accomplishments over individual.
As in 2009, the New York events will be part of the Corporate Challenge's worldwide “Teaming Up For a Greener Tomorrow” campaign. The effort uses best environmental practices in organizing and staging races to make a positive impact.
The entry fee for the 2009 J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge in New York is $42 per entrant. All entries must be part of a corporate team, with each team needing to register a minimum of four employees. Awards will be given to the fastest five men's, women's and mixed teams.
