The 2018 J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge Championship will be contested along a 3.5-mile course through Boston’s historic Back Bay.
The J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge Championship is heading to a city very familiar in celebrating champions.
The 2018 J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge Championship is scheduled for Thursday, June 21, in Boston. The 3.5-mile road race brings together the first-place men’s, women’s and mixed teams from each of the 13 J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge Series cities – a total of 156 participants from 39 companies in 13 cities and seven countries.
Boston has celebrated 10 championships in the four major North American professional sports – baseball, basketball, football, hockey – in the last 17 years, the most of any city in the United States. So, it’s very appropriate the best full-time working runners in the world visit in June to determine who’s fittest and fastest.
The J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge Championship has been the unifying event of the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge since 1983. It was first held at the Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It moved to Wall Street in lower Manhattan for one year, 1984. It then began a 24-year run on Park Avenue (1985-2008), in front of JPMorgan Chase’s world headquarters. All those races were held on Saturday mornings, typically in October.
Since 2010, the Championship has adopted an “Olympic-style” rotation, and has been held on the same night of the regularly-scheduled Corporate Challenge. With Boston joining the Championship host cities this year, it will mark nine different hosts in this rotation, following Johannesburg (2010), Singapore (2011), Chicago (2012), Rochester, NY (2013), London (2014), San Francisco (2015), New York City (2016) and Frankfurt (2017).
The Championship will start approximately five minutes before the regularly-scheduled Boston J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge, which has reached a full-capacity of entries for 23 consecutive years.
United States cities swept the team awards at the 2017 J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge Championship in Frankfurt. San Francisco earned a pair of titles with Google taking the men’s crown and Airbnb the mixed. New York’s Morgan Stanley was the women’s champion.
Boston is one of 13 events that will be held in the 2018 J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge Series. The Corporate Challenge hosted 248,937 entrants from 7,334 companies.
