20th year celebration in Johannesburg set for 13 March
The first and only J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge ever held on the continent of Africa enjoys a significant milestone this 13 March when it conducts its 20th running at the Wanderers Club in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Since its inception, the Corporate Challenge has become a vibrant platform for South African companies to promote health, teamwork and corporate responsibility. This year’s landmark 20th edition will have a sell-out crowd of over 14,000 participants running, walking and supporting one another.
The 5.6-km team run/walk has been popular since day one – drawing 6,144 entrants from 211 companies in its 2004 debut at the Wanderers Club. Each subsequent year has seen the event reach a full capacity of entrants due to unique blend of competition, camaraderie, and entertainment. This year will be no exception with the post-race concert featuring electro-pop duo Locnville, with identical twins Andrew and Brian Chaplin. DJ Luis will also be on hand with his high-energy dance tracks.
“This year marks an exciting milestone for the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge in Johannesburg,” said Kevin Latter, Senior Country Officer & Head of Investment Banking for J.P. Morgan Sub Saharan Africa “We are thrilled to celebrate two decades of promoting wellness, camaraderie, and social good. The energy and enthusiasm of the Johannesburg community have made this event a tremendous success, and we’re honoured to continue our support for local initiatives.”
The local initiative that will benefit this year is The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. J.P. Morgan will donate in celebration of all Corporate Challenge entrants to support Laureus’ initiatives that promote sustainable development, education, and community empowerment.
“We, alongside our long-standing partner The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, are proud to partner with incredible organisations that are doing vital work in our community,” Latter added. “This year, as we celebrate our 20th edition, funds raised will support these beneficiaries who are creating lasting change in Johannesburg.”
The organizations that will benefit from the 2025 J.P. Morgan/Laureus partnership include:
Soweto Canoe and Recreation Club – The Soweto Canoe and Recreation Club (SCARC) is a community-driven sports and development initiative based in Soweto, Power Park. SCARC provides training and competition opportunities in canoeing, allowing children to participate in local, provincial, and national races. With guidance from experienced coaches, the paddlers have achieved significant milestones, earning medals and recognition in Gauteng Series Races, South African Schools Championships, and the South African Canoe Marathon.
Fight With Insight – Launched in 2006, Fight with Insight was established in the city with the vision of creating a safe place for the children of Johannesburg, using boxing to teach life skills to assist in taking responsibility for claiming rights. Fight with Insight aims to contribute positively to healthy lifestyles and sustainable communities for youth and children. Fight with Insight is one of the few programs that focusses on the boy child, without excluding the girl child, with the intention of reclaiming manhood and exiting good men into the world. Fight with Insight is fighting for a society in which men are responsible and take responsibility for not harming themselves and others, positively impacting on breaking the cycle of violence.
