Systems Management Planning
leaves its imprint on Corporate Challenge

ROCHESTER, April 15, 2014 — When Systems Management Planning (SMP) gathers for the 2014 J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge® in Rochester, it will share a common goal with the expected crowd of more than 11,000 runners and walkers from 450 companies.

“We just look forward to a fun time!” said company captain Nikki Reynolds.

But, one of the ways SMP achieves that goal is anything but common.

Guess
Guess the Tat involves matching a temporary tattoo with the employee who was wearing it on race day.

“One element that we add to the event is a Guess the Tat game,” said Reynolds. “We have temporary SMP tattoos that participants put on. We take close-up pictures of the tattoos, put them on one page together, and have folks match the tattoo to the person. Lots of fun!”

While temporary tattoos are something not generally associated with the Corporate Challenge, it is a unique example of the camaraderie that has been one of the mainstays of the world’s leading corporate running Series.

Registration remains open for the May 29 Corporate Challenge at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Held annually since 1991, it is part of the fabric of the business community. Companies like Systems Management Planning bring their own unique flavor.

“I think the team enjoys getting together in an active atmosphere where all physical abilities are welcome,” said Reynolds. “We enjoy socializing with one another in a fun and casual environment.

“This is a good opportunity to spread camaraderie through the company,” she added. “We have a large cross-section of employees through various departments and from junior level up to senior management. I love the race because it brings together employees with all different abilities, from different departments in our organization, to be active and party together.”

SMP, which was founded in 1997 in Rochester and now includes branches in Albany and Orlando, FL, provides IT solutions to large and small businesses, educational institutions and healthcare organizations. It has been participating in the Rochester Corporate Challenge for more than 10 years.

One reason for SMP’s long run of participation is that, in addition to providing an opportunity to share an out-of-the-office experience, the Corporate Challenge also brings a focus on employee health and fitness, which is welcome at SMP.

“Health and fitness initiatives in the workplace are very important (at SMP),” said Reynolds, who is company captain of SMP’s team for the second year and serves as the corporation’s full-time health, wellness and fitness coordinator.

“We have a comprehensive wellness program that offers a variety of services and educational opportunities for employees,” she explained. “These services aim to promote soundness of mind, body and spirit. We also participate in the Tour de Cure, and sponsor the River Challenge, Rochester Triathlon and grocery run 5K here in Rochester.”

The wellness program, however, does not help with the Guess the Tat game. Employees are on their own there, which makes it all the more fun.
